Grand Jury

According to the Alaska court system they use both preliminary hearing and grand jury method in criminal court cases.A grand jury consists of a group of people who are responsible for examining evidence presented by the prosecutor and issuing indictments. A preliminary hearing is the initial proceeding after a criminal charge has been filed by the prosecutor. At that time information is gathered to determine whether there is enough evidence for a trial. The difference between the two is that the preliminary hearing is conducted first without a grand jury.
